Airline portals pay miles instead of cashback. The rates can beat Rakuten on a given day. They also fail silently if you use another coupon extension, a different browser profile, or a gift-card checkout the merchant excludes.

A posting checklist

  1. Disable other cashback extensions for that purchase
  2. Click through once, do not paste the merchant URL later
  3. Pay with a method the terms allow
  4. Screenshot the portal confirmation and the order number
  5. Wait the posted window, then open a ticket with both IDs

Cash portals have the same attribution issues; see Rakuten Review and Cashback Portals Explained.

Bottom line

Miles are a rebate with a worse customer-service path than cash. Use portals on large, boring purchases you can document.
