Dollar stores win on tiny quantities and convenience. Clubs win on unit price if you finish the pack before it expires or takes over the closet. The mistake is mixing the two logics.
Compare like a spreadsheet
Price per ounce or per count. Note quality (trash bags that split are not cheap). Note your real consumption: a 36-roll pack is not a deal if you are a household of one with no storage.
A practical split
Party supplies and one-off condiments: dollar store. Paper, laundry, frozen chicken: club or a bona fide grocery sale. Do not “stock up” at the dollar store on items with bad unit math just because the sticker is small.
