Amazon Subscribe & Save: When the Discount Is Real

Subscribe & Save is a loyalty discount wrapped in a delivery schedule. The percentage is real only if you actually use the product at that pace.
The rules that matter
The higher discount often requires several active subscriptions. Skip or cancel too aggressively and the rate can drop. Recurring coupons on the same item can also disappear after the first shipment.
A simple test
Divide the discounted unit price by how many weeks the item lasts in your house. If you are throwing product away, you did not save. Stretch the interval (every 2–3 months for shampoo, not every 4 weeks) before you add more items just to hit a higher tier.
Manage it like a bill
Put a 10-minute calendar reminder two days before each shipment. Skip is cheaper than returning.
Bottom line
Use Subscribe & Save for boring staples you already repurchase. Do not autoship anything you are still testing.
